"Indonesia. The territory of centuries -old traditions" - this is the name of not only this exhibition, but also the colorful photo book of Sergei Kovalchuk, dedicated to the same topic. The presentation of the book took place on May 29 at the State Museum of the East, accompanied by a small exposition from the Indonesian photo archive of the author. The book, including about seven hundred photos with text comments, shows primarily what cultural treasury is Indonesia outside the "worked out" tourist routes. This topic is inexhaustible and immense. Sergei Kovalchuk was required for a total of about ten years to create such a detailed and expressive "report" about what he saw and heard during his many trips around the country. Often he got to those places of the archipelago where, one might say, the foot of a tourist did not step. This is what makes many shots of his photo album unique.
Like the exhibition, the book is devoted to the traditions and customs of Indonesian peoples, who for centuries, from generation to generation support them with their labor and faith, their ideas about the beautiful and proper, about mournful and joyful. Each section of the photo album - "holidays", "rituals of the life cycle", "rituals", "lifestyle", "competition and entertainment", "music and dancing" - reveals different faces and originality of these traditions, at the same time showing the community of multilinguals Ethnos inhabiting many islands of Indonesia. Such coverage of the topic is consonant with a motto on the state emblem of the country - unity in diversity.
Sergey Kovalchuk has been working in the Travel-Photo genre for a long time. He is the author of the photoalbum books" Window in Indochina "," Exotic of Southeast Asia "," Mysterious Myanmar "," Laos-Ecological Tourism Country "," Bruny-Daroussals: the Abode of the World "," Singapore. All Asian Crossroads "," ASEAN Country. A look from Russia. " The book "Indonesia. The territory of centuries-old traditions" (published by the AST-Press Publishing House), imbued with the warmest, friendly feelings for this distant country, a wonderful gift to the upcoming anniversary-the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and Indonesia
