Almanac “In Umbra: Demonology as a Semiotic System” combines works dedicated to mythological characters - ambivalent and harmful spirits, “lower” deities, demons. Representations of invisible enemies, tempters, pests, agents of diseases play an important role in the culture of different peoples. With their help, many disasters and cataclysms are explained, from personal to global. In traditional societies, perfumes are perceived as natural neighbors of a person, relations with whom define a lot in cultural everyday life. Demonology is developing on all “floors” of culture - from books to folklore, from medieval miniature to computer games. The images and plots associated with lower spirits in world religions, folklore, art and literature are dedicated to the almanac “in umbra”. For students and experts in the field of history, art history, religious studies, folklores, social and cultural anthropology.
