The book contains color photos from the large collection of S.M. Prokudin-Gorsky landmarks of the Russian Empire, which is part of the meeting that introduces the reader to the views of small and large cities and the villages of the empire, as they were at the beginning of the twentieth century.
In our time, incredible, wonderful discoveries in the history of our country are still possible. More recently, we met color photographs of Sergei Mikhailovich Prokudin-Gorsky (1863-1944), photographer, chemist, inventor, publisher and teacher, pioneer of color photography in Russia. Gorsky was the creator of a wonderful collection of color pictures of the sights of the Russian Empire, made at the very beginning of the twentieth century. For more than 100 years, glass records with the negativity of these photographs were stored in the library of the US Congress, and no one had the proper idea of their value. Recently, it has become clear that the unique collection of Prokudin-Gorsky is an object of cultural heritage of all mankind. This edition provides part of this collection, pictures of views of cities, villages and landscapes, made in different provinces of the Russian Empire, which the scientist visited during expeditions. These pictures were relatively recently digitized and are now in the public domain
