The book is the result of the two -year work of the study team "identity in the typical". The purpose of this publication is to attract the attention of a wide audience: both specialists directly related to the system of the recreation center and people who are not indifferent to the cultural and social life of their city and the region. Here, thoughts and tools are collected, which will be useful both in the modernization of the existing system of institutions of creative leisure and in the development of new projects of sociocultural buildings. The book consists of three parts: about the past, present and future systems of houses and palaces of culture. The chapter about the past tells what goals and objectives the state set before the system of the recreation center in different periods, and the most important conclusions are formulated. The chapter about the present describes the scale and value of the system that continues to function today, despite the crisis. The chapter about the future shows how this system can be restarted and what colossal effect on the society effectively functioning recreation areas can have on society
