The three -volume "History of the Body", written by French, British and American anthropologists and cultural historians, comprehensively considers bodily practices and the representative of the body in Europe - from the Renaissance to our time. The second volume is dedicated to the period from the Great French Revolution to the outbreak of the First World War: "long XIX century", which brought numerous innovations that radically changed the perception of the body. Medical discoveries and achievements of art, nascent sexology and rapid development of sports, technical progress and moral thoughts about pleasure and pain - in all areas, the attitude to the body is seriously changing. This portends even deeper changes that will occur in the 20th century.
