The collection includes major works of an outstanding philologist-novel and literary critic Erich Auerbach (1892–1957) The main part of the publication is the translation of his last book, published in 1958 “Literary language and public in Latin late antiquity and in the Middle Ages”, where the author is in the focus of the author’s attention of Western Christian rhetoric, the Middle Latin style, the poetics of folk -language court novels and the formation of Romanesque culture in Generally, as well as the main issues of the sociology of literature: how and when did the reading public arise? What are her relationship with the author? How is this audience developing and what awaits it in the future? The collection is supplemented by the most important articles by Auerbach, including the conceptual “Figura” (1938)
