Founded in 1764 by Catherine the Great, the State Hermitage is one of the greatest museums in the world. The main ensemble of the Hermitage includes several historical buildings located along the Palace Embankment in St. Petersburg. The collection has about three million works, including the world"s largest collection of painting. It was decided to transform the eastern wing of the Main Staff to the Museum of Art of the XIX-XX centuries to the 250th anniversary of the Hermitage. The World Bank announced an international tender. The architectural bureau Studio 44 received this order, defeating the contestants with world names. The central element of the elegant scheme of “Studio 44”, which meets both the complexity of the project and the needs of the XXI century museum, was a grandiose anfilade with hanging gardens, which will undoubtedly attract the attention of visitors from around the world.
