This study is devoted to the systematization of the genres of a religious functional style on the communicative-pragmatic and categorical-text bases, taking into account their cultural, historical and textual genesis. The research material compiled the texts of the liturgical and non -service spheres of Orthodox religious communication in Russian and Church Slavonic, selected on the basis of the tradition of their use in the religious activities of the Church and the individual, as well as the frequency of use in modern religious communication. The basis of the analysis was the canonical texts of the gospel in Russian translations. A separate block of material made up the texts of canonical and non -canonical prayers. The special material of the study is the texts of the newspapers of the Orthodox media and the texts of informal dialogs in groups of Orthodox parishes on the Internet. The materials posted on the official websites of the Russian Orthodox Church were also analyzed.
