The monograph is a number of essays on the history of the main genres of religious literature and the literature of Italy of the XIII-XV centuries. The studied genres are not analyzed in isolation, they are built into a special dynamic genre system, considered through the prism of medieval reception. Particular importance is given to the functional nature of the genre, its installation on communicativeness and didacticity. Each chapter of the book is dedicated to a separate genre - sermons, life, lauda, sacred performance, vision -discretion, pilgrimage diary, writing, sum. Its specificity is revealed as a set of substantial and structural dominant. The emphasis is on the difference between one genre from another, but at the same time the process of their interpenetration and mutual influence is considered. The evolution of the genres of Italian religious literature of the Middle Ages is represented as a movement from non -literature "to literature. The application offers samples of each of the analyzed genres translated into Russian.
