The book of B. N. Tikhomirova is a series of essays dedicated to the addresses on Nevsky Prospekt in St. Petersburg, one way or another connected with the biography and/or work of F. M. Dostoevsky.
On Nevsky Prospekt there were such historical persons as V. G. Belinsky, A. A. Kraevsky, N. A. Nekrasov, M. M. Dostoevsky, Baron A. E. Wrangel, A. S. Suvorin and other, in which Dostoevsky had, with whom he was in correspondence or was in other literary or everyday relations. He also performed here at the literary evenings in a noble assembly, participated in a spiritualistic session in the apartment of A. N. Aksakov, listened to the sermon of Lord Rydstok, prayed in the Znamensky Church, visited the winter and Anichka palaces and so on. In the confectionery Wolf (formerly Wolf and Beranger), a fateful acquaintance of Dostoevsky with M.V. Petrashevsky took place. On Nevsky, an action takes place in some of his works (“crocodile”, “double”, “notes from the underground”, “idiot”, “teenager”), the routes of a number of his characters run, the prototypes of his heroes live.
In the book, based on the unpublished materials of the writer’s archive, printed sources of the nineteenth century, other historical documents are highlighted by the little -known pages of the writer’s biography, the addresses associated with him are first indicated, data on the history of buildings on Nevsky Prospekt are given, the context of Dostoevsky’s era is recreated
