The diary, which Delacroisa kept from 1822 to 1863, is almost completely dedicated to art. This is a magnificent literary work, combining a subtle essay, a lyrical description, statements of a professional, deeply analyzing painting, literature and music. Bringing in his “diary” for many years almost every day, Delacroix was least thought that his manuscripts would be published over time. The artist simply wanted to understand his thoughts, consolidate the plans of upcoming works in his memory, try to answer his questions that concern him: what is art? How does creativity eat? How does a masterpiece arise? How can an artist cause a state of inspiration?
Delcroke’s thoughts turned many pages of his “diary” into a collection of philosophical sketches and poetic confessions.
