The book is devoted to the problems and prospects of distance learning, which have gained particular relevance during the period of the 2020 pandemic. The author introduces the definition of the concept of “distance learning”, provides its brief history, considers principles, patterns, approaches to designing distance courses and a model for evaluating their quality, and also reviews the efficiency of this format compared to traditional full -time training. The stages of development of didactics and the formation of digital didactics as a methodological basis for distance learning are analyzed. The book is addressed to university teachers, can also be useful in the training of future teachers at pedagogical universities and institutions of pedagogy based on classical universities
