The magazine "A-I" is a unique journal of unofficial Russian art, published in Paris in 1979-1986. This unprecedented publication not only introduced the Western viewer to the work of Russian underground artists, but also created the language of new artistic criticism. The editors - Alexander Sidorov (pseudo. Aleksey Alekseev, Moscow) and Igor Shelkovsky (Paris) - were preparing a correspondence magazine, exchanging materials across the border in semi -legal methods with the help of volunteers. For the first time, the works of people who became classics of unquestioned art were published on the pages of the magazine: Vagrich Bakhchanyan, Erica Bulatov, Ilya Kabakov, Komar and Melamid, Dmitry Alexandrovich Prigov, Vladimir Sorokin and many others. The collection included an extensive editorial correspondence of the magazine participants, which allows the reader to see the life of Soviet underground art from the inside, in the process of its formation
