Literature and madness are a topic popular in mass culture, but if you discard a romantic fleur, it turns out that there are not so many attractive in it. Writers often face mental disorders, and for many of them this meeting turns out to be fatal, but we must not forget that even the one who looked into the eyes of the abyss remains a person who needs the help of a competent specialist (there were not so many of the latter until recently. ) This book includes texts about the relations of Russian writers with psychiatry: Anton Chekhov himself was a practicing psychiatrist, Leo Tolstoy visited psychiatric hospitals as an observer, Vsevolod Garshin and Gleb Assumption knew about the life of a yellow house not heavily, Alexander Herzen, following the populist tradition, wrote about The social status of mentally ill, and Leonid Andreev and Mikhail Artsybashev depicted the most gloomy facets of the psychology of the mentally ill in their works.
