The book is the most complete collection of literary and critical texts by S. Gedroits-under this pseudonym, Samuel Aronovich Lurie (1942-2015) published his reviews for several years in a row. Three hundreds of his works, previously scattered according to periodicals in 2003-2012, are formed in the mosaic history of modern Russian literature at the beginning of the 20th century.
Also, the collection includes an interview with S. A. Lurie about literary hoax "S. Gedroitz ".
"I was interested in introducing elements of prose into criticism. For forty years, the reader got used to Samuel Lurie, learned his tastes and literary preferences. It was enough for him to see the name of the book and my opinion. It seemed to me that no one was reading Samuel Lurie, but only indifferently notes: "The critic Lurie said ..." It was time to replace the boring reviewer with an unknown and completely different person. Then I was happy to listen to judgments like: Lurie could not understand this and that, and he was able to hedgehogs in his youth. Even large writers fell into a trap.
It is natural to admire the poet, but how can one love criticism in absentia? Only if he has a legend and a biographical image.
Gedroits was also young, perky, daring, mocking, wrote on slang and Argo, used colloquial words and did not reckon with the authorities, often as if “spoke” about his personal circumstances. I always believed that criticism and essays are simply uninteresting without living human speech. ”
