The collection of color transposives presented in the book was created by the personnel Swedish military, an officer of the General Staff and passionate traveler Karl Elof Berggren (1875–1969), whose life and career were closely connected with Russia.
At the beginning of the 19th century, K. E. Bergren carried out a number of unusual travels in the Russian Empire, fixing both the significant and the little -known corners of the empire, their inhabitants, colorful life on the fragile surface of the glass. In the pictures, together with the photographer, we observe the annals of our country of the early twentieth century. Thanks to manually added color, the transparencies cease to be just documentary shooting. They build a deep emotional connection with the fragments of that world and the author himself, who left us his bright look in the last years of the great country.
