The monograph considers the classic detective as an independent genre of criminal literature. In order to make an invariant of a classic detective, the works of E. Poe, A. Conan Doyle, A. Krist, on the one hand, and E. Gaborio, G. Lero, M. Leblan, are analyzed. The chapters of the invariant and genesis of the classical detective precedes the author"s classification that determines the place of the classical detective in the space of literature in general. For clarity of conclusions at the end of the book, comparative tables on genres (invariant and genesis), two schemes and a list of genres literature are given. Two “memos” are also attached, which in a half -seriously form from the contrary, explain what a classic detective and a police novel is
