A.I. Reitblat is a leading specialist in the historical sociology of Russian literature. In his studies, he considers literature as a social institution and gives preference to plots, which usually bypass literary critics: "basement" literature, writers, not awarded the status of classics, mechanisms for the formation of literary reputation, the formation of copyright, writer"s fees, the interaction of authors, editors , censors, booksakers, etc. In the new collection of works by A.I. The ratblant included articles and materials for 2014-2020. Continuing the line of his previously published studies, the author writes about the social mechanisms of the emergence of literary classics, about the sociology of literary scandal, about the rhetorical strategies of justification of serfdom in the first half of the 19th century, about the relationship of the writer, publisher and journalist F.V. Bulgarina - one of the main characters of the scientific activity of the ratblat - with contemporaries, about the vivid fate of long -forgotten figures: the writer Feoktista Ulegov and actress Elizabeth Shabelskaya. All these texts connect the approach to literature as a phenomenon that cannot be fully understood, leaving aside his connection with the state, economics, morality, religion and other social institutions
