The book includes scientific and journalistic articles, interviews, performances of an outstanding domestic military historian, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Chairman of the Congress of the St. Petersburg intelligentsia, Honorary Doctor of St. Petersburg State Unitary Enterprise M. B. Piotrovsky.
Academician Piotrovsky - Director of the State Hermitage since 1992. The concept of the "Big Hermitage" developed by him made it possible to create a system of museums-’gatelets", which bear the name and ideas of the great museum in the world. The book reflects the versatility of the author’s scientific work and his activities as the head of one of the greatest museums in the world, as well as a civil position and personal point of view on modern cultural and social realities.
