Boris Iofan is widely known as the author of the project of the grandiose Palace of Soviets, which was supposed to appear in the very center of Moscow on the site of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior. However, in his work, the architect was not limited to the dominant style of neoclassicism in the Stalin era. The architectural language of Jofan changed and developed throughout his life, from early Italian projects, gravitating to tradition and warrant, through the rethinking of the avant-garde to the plastic expressiveness and monumentality of the 1930s and, finally, to innovations in the use of concrete panels in the construction of residential buildings 1960- 1970s. Boris Iofan has always been looking for the perfect expression of modernity in architecture, capable of talking about his time as a special era.
