The book of Andrei Aryev, the St. Petersburg writer, the historian of literature, essay and critic, summarizes his experience of the researcher of St. Petersburg poetry and St. Petersburg culture as a whole. Its work was published in philological publications, special collections and literary magazines. They are either written recently, or edited by the author for this publication and subordinated to a single plan: to show and determine what the so -called "Petersburg text" is in its poetic embodiment.
The book is suggested by the generalizing introductory chapter "Man", which speaks of the problem of the personality, how it has been interpreted in Russian poetry since Pushkin, his "Copper Horseman", to this day.
The main case of the book consists of two sections. The first ("conformity") considers the connections and breaks within individual poetic systems: the emergence of a special phenomenon of the Tsarskoye Selo poetry, the adaptation of acmeists represented by Mandelstam of the ideas of Konstantin Leontyev, the relationship of one of the main characters of the book of George Ivanov with Mandelstam, Georgy Adamovich, Vladimir Nabokov, the problem The perception of Alexander Blok in the circle of Akhmatova, etc. The second section ("secluded") is devoted to a holistic analysis of the work of modern poets: Dmitry Bobyshev, Viktor Sosnora, Alexander Kushner and Sergey Stratanovsky
