The book is dedicated to the art of avant-garde of the nineteenth and xx centuries in the West and in Russia. The theoretical texts and artistic practices of the avant -garde are considered in their intensive interaction with political ideologies and movements of the line of centuries. With specific examples of modernist theory and practice, the author builds a single field of interpretation of art from Eduard Manet to Jackson Pollock, tracking the complex interdependence of art and politics from the era of the Great French Revolution and up to totalitarian regimes and American democracy of the middle of the twentieth century.
