The monograph is devoted to the consideration of rhyme slang units created in the Australian version of the English language and reflecting the realities of Australian linguistic culture, as well as borrowed from other areas and functioning in the Australian version of the English language.
Australian rhyme slang successfully competes with his British (English) counterpart and is almost not inferior to him in authority, but remains less well -known and poorly understood. The monograph makes up for this gap.
This work can be regarded as a kind of lexicographic dictionary-reference and at the same time as a dictionary of language and culture, since the material of the monograph is organized on a thematic principle in order to give the reader an opportunity to get a more complete and coherent idea of the role of units of rhyme slang, as well as valuable Cultural encyclopedic information about the realities encoded in rhymes, or transmitted by rhymes and presented in numerous sociocultural comments to them.
Monographs present sociocultural information about literary and folklore characters, historical, state and politicians, famous athletes, musicians, pop idols, film actors, writers, geographical objects, historical events, social institutions, trading brands and everyday, domestic. The realities that we meet when reading newspapers and magazines, the novels and stories of the Australian community, when we hear conversational speech in public places and in a private conversation, we look at soap operas and sports television posts, make purchases and so on. The names of these objects are naturally included in the so -called background knowledge (Background Knowledge) or cultural literacy (Cultural Literacy), not only the inhabitants of Australia, but also the British islands and must be purposefully mastered by foreigners who have to make special efforts to grab and realize implications and additional Obertons, familiar and obvious to the native speaker of the Australian English and Australian culture
