The book for the first time contains the most famous plays of the so -called "revealing drama" - the trends that played a significant role in the history of the Russian theater of the second half of the 1850s: "official" V. A. Sollogub, "Light not without good people" N. M. Lviv, "profitable place" A. N. Ostrovsky and "Mishura" A. A. Potekhin. These plays depict the world of Russian bureaucracy on the eve of the reforms of the 1860s and exposed its main ulcer - corruption. The authors bring a new type of official to the stage who does not want to take bribes and obey the bureaucratic routine.
