The book is a fundamental study of the phenomenon of Russian artistic emigration "first wave". We are talking about artists who began their professional activities in the Russian Empire, but were forced to continue it in other countries: Turkey (Constantinople), the kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes (Belgrade), Czechoslovakia (Prague), Germany (Berlin) and France) and France) (Paris) The author considers the art of Russian emigration as an independent stream of a unified Russian artistic tradition, separating from cultural processes in the homeland due to an extractive nature - the Bolshevik revolution of 1917. The originality of the book is that both flows - both domestic and emigrant - are represented here as two parts of one cultural phenomenon - Russian art. The circle of names of the masters affected in the book is very wide: from the world famous V. Kandinsky, M. Shagala, X. Sutin, N. Goncharova, M. Larionov to the Marevna, S. Punishuna, I. Puni, N. Tarkhova, forgotten in the homeland , from the retrospectivists of the circle of the "world of art" A. Benois, K. Somov, the stylists of B. Grigoryev, A. Yakovlev and Yu. Annenkov to the experimenters and modernists P. Cherychev, V. Baranov-Russian, A. Pevzer, A. Lansky, S. Polyakova, N. de Steel and others.
The book is richly illustrated, equipped with extensive applications and addressed to both specialists and a wide range of lovers of Russian art of the 20th century
