In the book of Doctor of Art, Professor V.G. Lisovsky sets out the history of the direction that developed in the architecture of Russia, the supporters of which sought to continue the tradition of pre -Petrine architecture in the context of the new time and thereby contribute to the formation of an original "national style", free from Western influences. It is shown to what extent such "national romantic" trends were able to affect the architectural practice of periods of domination of baroque and classicism. Different modifications of the "national style" ("artistic archeology", "Russian-Byzantine style", "Russian style", "neo-Russian style") that existed in the 19th and early XX centuries are characterized in detail.
