In the first volume of the complex of textbooks "Applied mechanics of continuous media, the main elements of vector and tensor analysis are given, necessary and sufficient to study the short course" Fundamentals of the mechanics of continuous media, stated using the mathematical apparatus of tensor calculus. The concepts and corresponding physical quantities used to describe the movement and the state of the material continuum are considered. Equations and ratios are displayed, fair for describing the behavior of any continuous media, regardless of their aggregate state and physical and mechanical properties.
