The basic physical principles of the work of quantum and cascading lasers (KKL) operating from the average-volume infrared spectrum to the terartz frequency range were briefly considered. The unique properties of the radiation of the KKL are discussed, which are the justification of the most preferred areas of their application. Numerous examples of the use of KKL and devices based on them are given in various fields of activity. The problems are analyzed that still require their solution to expand the areas of the use of these lasers. The book is designed for a wide range of specialists working in the field of defense, safety, communications, medicine and biology, environmental monitoring and spectroscopy, laser physics, and it can also be useful to teachers, graduate students and senior specialties. Keywords: quantum-cascading lasers, optical-electronic counteraction, detection and identification of traces of complex chemical compounds, image-seeing systems, KKL in medicine and biology, environmental monitoring, and atmospheric optical communication lines
