The monograph continues to publish the results of rescue archaeological work at the Pyatnitsky end of Ancient Smolensk. Excavations were associated with the reconstruction of the Dnieper embankment to the 1150th anniversary of the city. In 2011–2012 On the territory of the Pyatnitsky end of Smolensk, an area of 560 square meters was investigated. m (excavations 3 and 4) In the course of the work, cultural strata with a capacity of up to 7 m were studied. The resulting materials reflect almost all aspects of the material culture of the urban population (house -building, ceramic and jewelry production, the entire spectrum of consumable and household equipment, trade relations, features of the funeral rite in parish cemeteries) in a chronological segment) From the end of the XI to the XVIII century. And they make it possible to largely adjust the ideas about the material culture of the medieval Russian city
