In the book of the St. Petersburg Assyriologist, Professor of St. Petersburg State University V.V. Emelyanov, for the first time, the reception of the heritage of the peoples of ancient Mesopotamia in Russian literature is studied for the first time. The first part sets out the history of Babylon-Assyrian reception in the works of ancient Russian literature (biblical sources), literature of the XVIII-XIX centuries (Greco -Roman sources) and in the literature of the XX - early XXI century (cuneiform sources) Particular attention is paid to the certificates of Russian travelers in Iraq. The second part publishes poetic and folklore works, as well as translations and texts of low prose.
Babylon-Assyrian literature had both the influence on historiosophy, religious, ethical and aesthetic representations of Russian civilization, which was directly and mediated by the Bible and Greco-Roman literature. At the same time, it is impossible to enter an interest in Babylon-Assyrian culture in the paradigm of orientalism, since Russian literature perceived the ancient legacy of cuneiform cultures through the Bible and the Christian Church.
