The study offers a new vision of the problems of the first grammar of the Russian language created at the end of the XVII - the first third of the XVIII century. Mostly foreign authors. For the first time, an attempt is made to consider the works of foreign scientists and translators not as the fruit of “linguistic curiosity” and/or help for the “organizers of the new literary language” in Russia, but in the context of the Western European cultural, educational and grammar discourse, in which Russian grammars were created along with grammars Other national languages, while not for “describing living colloquial speech” in Russia, as it is traditionally considered, but with the aim of codification of the Russian language on the basis of one of its ususes and the publication in this language of “good books”.
