The real publication "View from the past" is a catalog of the collection of Russian portrait painting of the XVIII-XIX centuries of the family of the famous Russian philanthropist and collector M.Yu. Karisalova. Part of this meeting became part of the exhibition of the same name, organized by the State Museum-Reserve, Tsarskoye Selo. The catalog presents works created by both Russian artists and the masters of the "Rossiy" - Western European painters who lived and worked in the Russian Empire. The catalog is preceded by two interesting, cognitive articles, one of which is devoted to the historical aspect of gathering in Russia and the analysis of the presented exhibition, and the second - the noble philanthropic activity M.Yu. Karisalova and his creative union with the HMZ "Tsarskoye Selo".
