The monograph is dedicated to a phenomenon that is poorly studied in Russia - generative art or gene art. This term indicates a set of artistic practices involving the creation of creative material through autonomous systems. In the study, for the first time an attempt is made to recreate the history of the development of Gen -Art as an original phenomenon in the art of Russia of the XX - early XXI century. The author studies the problem of the origin of generative art and, contrary to the opinion, who was common in a foreign scientific tradition, sees its origins not only Dadaists and surrealists, but also masters of classical Russian avant -garde, as well as in the experiments of leading Soviet specialists in cybernetic modeling of the 1960s and 1980s.
