The publication is dedicated to the 1930s - the least studied period in the life and work of a wonderful painter, the leader of the Association of the Bubnovy Valet "Ilya Ivanovich Mashkova (1881-1944) In the first part of the book, the autobiographical story of the artist "in its parts was published, written in the 1930s, which, according to the author, was supposed to become part of an extensive essay dedicated to the history of the native land, the Don Cossacks, collective farm and cultural construction in the Khopersky district . Humanitarian scientists of various profiles in their articles analyzed in detail the story that in general is the first comprehensive study of this essay. In the second part of the book, documents related to the large-scale activities of Mashkov on the construction of the House of Socialist Culture and on the transformation of the native village of Mikhailovskaya in an exemplary town was published. And again, specialists in their comments from different aspects are considering the history of transformations conducted by the artist who sent all its boiler energy to cultural construction. The third part of the book is devoted to the artistic creativity of Mashkov in the 1930s. Late picturesque and graphic works are considered in comparison with early works, in the context of evolutionary processes in the culture and art of the 1930s, as well as events in society
