Throughout Ivan Turgenev's life, there were many people around him. This included a wide circle of his Russian relatives and neighbors, as well as his friends - writers, poets, and critics, those who adored him and those who did not. Life abroad also brought Turgenev numerous acquaintances and friends in Europe and America. Avdotya Panaeva and Henry James, Nikolai Nekrasov and Polina Viardot, Varvara Turgeneva and Maria Markovich (Marko Vovchok) - this is an incomplete list of the characters in the book, those who were close to Turgenev at different periods of his life. In her research, Irina Chaikovskaya relied on documentary evidence, letters, and memoirs, and although all the author's assumptions are based on real facts from the writer's life, the book turned out to be engaging and interesting for a wide range of readers who appreciate authentic and solid prose.
