The book is devoted to the study of the contribution of Russian artistic culture to the formation and development of one of the big world styles - the classicism of the second half of the 18th - early 19th centuries on the material of architecture and sculpture. The special role of the Moscow school in this process is emphasized. Based on the problems of heritage and inheritance, the author, in the part dedicated to architecture, conducts the reader on the enfilads of the most important issues for the fate of the style in Russia: the inertia of baroque, typology and iconography of the classic building, the specifics of Moscow preferences, the alliance of architecture and nature, as well as the laws of the exposition ensemble. The science of the era of classicism is represented in the light of the interaction of “imitative” and allegorical tasks. Here he is immersed in the world of Russian history as a source of topics in academic art, gets acquainted with the features of using the thematic arsenal of ancient myths in a series of there are no facilities of Russian Minerva, including in the bas -reliefs of the Moscow Senate.
