In the book of the historian of architecture A.N. Selivanova showed the transformation of Soviet architecture in the 1930s, during the transition from the concepts of avant-garde to new stylistics and ideology formulated by the party leadership of the USSR. Soviet architectural practice is analyzed in the context of the architecture of AR deco, popular in Western countries, and inseparably from the architectural theory of this period. The creative methods of Soviet architects - both developing in the new conditions, and, on the contrary, rejected the analytical tools of the avant -garde era are especially considered. The study is based on the analysis of theoretical texts, materials of discussions published in the Soviet press, and numerous archival materials that were not previously published. The book is illustrated by projects and photographs of post constructivist buildings built in the USSR.
The monograph will be interesting to a wide circle of readers interested in the history, culture and art of the USSR, as well as specialists - art critics, architectural historians, and culturalists
