These are the characters of the Soviet monumental mosaic, which we can meet in almost every house of culture or at the old metro stations. The authors of this book will tell how and why these images were created and why the Soviet mosaic is not only the heritage of ideology, but also an interesting cultural phenomenon. You can trace the whole path of the development of mosaics as art: from Byzantium and ancient Rome to "Red" Moscow, which is given most of the book. In addition to a historical excursion, the reader offers more than a hundred detailed photographs of the mosaic panels of the capital created by the English photojournalist, the holder of the Pulitzer Prize James Hill.
