With the entry of Belarus into the USSR, Minsk joined the path of rapid development. His new status as the capital of the Soviet Republic accelerated the modernization of the city.
The construction of the main administrative buildings during the 1920-1930s, as well as the buildings of the Opera and Ballet Theater and the Academy of Sciences, allowed Minsk to become a real capital. In addition, the emergence of new plants contributed to the development of economic potential, while new residential quarters provided residents with the best living conditions. The Great Patriotic War, the German occupation and furious battles for the liberation of the city, destroying pre -war development, left Minsk 90% destroyed. The reconstruction of the city, begun since 1945 and extended until the end of the 1950s, is quite typical of Stalinist urbanism. It was attended by Russian and Belarusian architects of the highest level.
Minsk reflects the realities of the architecture of the Stalin era. But in general, political ups and downs, lack of building materials, unpredictability of the fate of architects, the symbolic ambitiousness of the plans, the buildings appearing before us in all greatness, no matter what
