The training manual outlines modern regulatory, conceptual and methodological foundations of information support for urban planning in the Russian Federation. The retrospective and the prospect of the formation and development of information systems for ensuring urban planning activity is presented in terms of improving the terminological apparatus, the evolution of substantive concepts, as well as the specifics of functioning in various historical periods of urban planning development. A review of modern automated information support of urban planning activities is given on the example of St. Petersburg.
