Essays on the architecture of Byzantium and the Caucasus

The book explores relevant and insufficiently studied problems of the medieval architecture of Byzantium and the Caucasus. The first section is dedicated to Byzantium. It examines complex topics of the origin and early evolution of the type of inscribed cross, genesis such as the dome hall, the occurrence of the cross-domed triconch, etc. The first time is given to the view of the gate temples, apsidiols and a semicircular niche. Much attention is paid to the relationship between the architecture of Constantinople and the provinces of the Central Private East, as well as its regional traditions.
The second section of the book is dedicated to the architecture of the medieval Caucasus. It discusses paradigms and transfers in the history of Caucasian architecture and the history of the domed basilica. A review of the formation of post -Arab architecture in the Kartwell, Abkhaz and Armenian lands is given. Private issues of Caucasian architecture are also highlighted: brick architecture of the Vaspurakan, the buildings of David Kuropalat, churches of Varzahan, etc.
