We call the structure a structure of various materials, designed to withstand the loads. The science of constructions is one of the traditional disciplines of modern knowledge. If the designs are crumbling, there is a great probability of the death of people, so engineers always study their behavior with addiction. However, unfortunately, when it comes to the transfer of this knowledge to ordinary people, the matter does not glue: engineers begin to speak the bird"s language and leave the listeners in the conviction that the doctrine of constructions and their work is something unintelligible, insignificant and, moreover, amazing Boring.
Nevertheless, the designs are so closely woven into our lives that we cannot afford not to notice them -? Any plant, animal or product of a person carries a larger or lower load. Almost all things that surround us are constructions of one type or another. In a conversation about them, not only the question is why the bridges fall, the houses collapse or the cars break, but why the worm has the shape of a worm and why the bat flies through the rosehip bush without prejudice to the wings. What is the principle of tendon? Why does Lumbago appear? Why did pterodactyls weigh so little? Why do the birds are feathers? How do arteries work? How to help children with disabilities? Why does sails have such a complex rigging? Why couldn"t Penelop’s grooms pull the Odyssey bow? Why did ancient people take off the wheels from chariots at night? How did the ancient Greek catapult act? Why does the reed sway in the wind? Why is Parthenon so beautiful? Can engineers learn from nature? And what can engineers teach doctors, biologists, artists and archaeologists?
It so happened that attempts to understand how the designs work and why they break, turned out to be much more time -consuming and took much more time than could be calculated. Only recently we were able to fill in knowledge gaps in such a way as to answer some of these questions more or less intelligently and clearly. The more fragments of the puzzle gathering together, the more clearly the general picture becomes -? And the subject from science for narrow specialists turns into a useful and publicly available knowledge applicable in different life situations.
This book is a modern view of design in nature, technology and everyday life. We will talk about how the need for strength and ability to endure the load has influenced all types of mechanisms and living beings, including man
