This book is a large -scale review of anthropological studies of architecture and surprisingly rich, and sometimes unexpected results of these studies. The author pays the main attention to the house - the main "intimate" context in which the interaction of people and architectural forms, the context that forms the boundaries of private and general, the context, in which tender, social and sexual roles and relationships are formed.
The author considers architectural forms as animated entities that live their lives, sometimes literally merging with the lives of people, sometimes gaining life because it may sound - destruction (as in the case of the destruction of buildings and monuments in some Socialist countries, when a pedestal remaining from the monument or the fenced territory of former concentration camps serves as a constant reminder that they existed, sometimes causing painful memories and associations).
First of all, the book will be useful for those who are studying anthropology, geography, material culture, sociology, architecture, design and urban planning, as well as for all those who, possibly, to their surprise, learn that The architecture that surrounds us is not just a kind of "corset" that captures our life and ourselves, but also that this life forms this life with us
