The proposed edition contains ballet librettos that were published in Russia between 1800 and 1917. All the texts included in it are presented not only in full without any alterations, but also with the preservation of the author's spelling and punctuation. They are divided into two volumes ("St. Petersburg" and "Moscow") according to the specific staging location to which the libretto belongs. Since different ballet masters (or the same author over a period of time) often worked on the same performance, the edition frequently presents different versions of the libretto, allowing for an assessment of its gradual transformation. The book will be of interest to practitioners of musical theater (performers, educators, ballet masters), its theorists (art historians, ballet scholars, theater scholars), and all interested readers.
