Author: Polina Zherebtsova, "Ant in a Glass Jar: Chechen Diaries 1994-2004": "My truth," writes the author of the book Polina Zherebtsova, "is the truth of a peaceful resident, observer, historian, journalist, a person who from the age of nine recorded what was happening by hours and dates, a writer-documentarian." Polina Zherebtsova was born in 1985 in Grozny and lived there until she was almost twenty. In 1994, she began keeping diaries in which she recorded events around her. The diaries cover Polina's childhood, adolescence, and youth, which were marked by the Chechen wars. School, first love, arguments with parents - things familiar to any teenager - were juxtaposed with bombings, hunger, destruction, and poverty. Since 2002, Polina Zherebtsova has worked as a journalist. She was accepted into the Union of Journalists of Russia, and the Finnish PEN Club. She is the laureate of the international Janusz Korczak award in two categories: for a military story and diary entries (2006). She was a finalist for the Andrei Sakharov Prize for Journalism as an Act (2012). She is the author of five books about the Caucasus. Polina Zherebtsova's prose has been translated into 14 languages.
