Jon Fosse is a renowned Norwegian writer and playwright, winner of the 2023 Nobel Prize for "Innovative Plays and Prose that Give Voice to the Inexpressible", winner of the Council of Nordic Countries and Theatrical Equivalent of the Nobel Prize - the International Ibsen Award, nominee for the International Booker Prize 2020 and 2022.

The artist Asle lives in Dylgju. He mainly communicates only with his neighbor, the single fisherman Asleik. Occasionally, he has conversations with another artist, who suffers from alcohol addiction and is also named Asle. Both Asles are friends and in a sense represent two versions of the same life.
On the eve of Christmas, one of them finds the other in a snowdrift. Saving his comrade from a cold death, the hero remembers the past and begins to look at friendship, faith, and creativity in a new way.
