Tacitus (mid-50s - ca. 120 AD) was an ancient Roman historian, one of the most famous writers of antiquity. He had a brilliant political career in Rome, becoming a senator and later a consul. Stepping away from politics, Tacitus decided to write a history of the first decades of the Roman Empire, meticulously studying sources and trying to reconstruct a complete picture of events. Thanks to his talent as a writer, deep analysis of historical material, and insight into the psychology of the people involved, Tacitus is rightfully recognized as one of the greatest Roman authors, and his main work, the 'Annals,' is considered a fundamental work on the history of Ancient Rome.
