'Anne of Green Gables' is the first novel by Canadian author Lucy Maud Montgomery. Published in 1908, by the mid-20th century it had become one of the most popular works of English-language children's literature and brought the author recognition from young readers all over the world. The main character, eleven-year-old Anne Shirley, is mistakenly adopted by brother and sister Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert. In front of the readers' eyes, Anne gets used to the new school, finds friends, and, as she grows older, becomes deeply attached to her new home called 'Green Gables'.
