Zhitkov Boris Stepanovich (1882-1938) was born in Novgorod in the family of a teacher of mathematics. He studied at the gymnasium, then entered the Novorossiysk University, which he graduated in 1906. Later Zhitkov studied at the St. Petersburg Polytechnic Institute at the shipbuilding department.
Persistence and perseverance helped Zhitkov master many professions: a marine officer, shipbuilder, navigator of a sailboat, physics teacher. He became a writer by chance: at the request of K. Chukovsky, he recorded one of his stories. And soon stories for children appeared in the magazines: "About the Monkey", "About the Wolf", "Handy cat" and many others. All the stories of Boris Zhitkov are true, he wrote about what he had to see or do himself
