In the monograph, a complete picture of the formation and development for seven centuries (XI-XVII) of the artistic and aesthetic culture of ancient Russia is analyzed in detail by one of its main sources - Byzantine aesthetics. The focus is on the development of Slavic-Russian ideas about the beauty, elevated, divine light, ascetic and artistic experience of comprehension of the University, an understanding of art and book culture by the ancient Rusichs, the ancient Russian perception of liturgical life, the synthesis of the arts in Orthodox worship, the understanding of wonders, visions, signs, morally - Ethical ideal of a person formed in ancient Russia. The prominent place occupies an analysis of the principles of refinery, symbolism, canonism, spirituality of medieval art and ancient Russian book. Particular attention is paid to the study of theology, aesthetics, artistic language and sacred meaning of the Russian Icon: "Collapse in the colors" of the largest icon painters of Feofan Greek, Andrei Rubleva, Dionysius Ferapontovsky. From the XVI century, but especially in the XVII century. In Russia, unique theoretical treatises appear but the theories of icon painting, music, verbal art, architecture.
